I spill my beer on the downstairs couch in Jackpine, so I go sit on the other couch.
Daniel comes in. I tell him not to sit on the first couch.
Daniel: “Why?”
Me: “Well I spilled something on it.“
Daniel: “What did you spill?”
Me: “Fine. I’ll go clean it up.”
Daniel: “You don’t have to!”
I’m already gone.
I can’t find paper towels in kitchen.
Chrissy comes home.
The house looks different to me.
I ask Kelly if they have a new house.
Where are we?
She tries to obscure the conversation by saying that of course she doesn’t know where we are.
So I ask Daniel.
Me: “Where are we?”
Why do I need to know so bad?
He’s vague and dismissive. Chrissy and Meg glance at each other as if they know I’ll be leaving soon.
Me: “Beamer, are we at 3060 Attree?”
Daniel: “A tree? 30 for 60? I haven’t played 120s in a while.”
His convoluted answer proves he’s avoiding the question.
Me to Kelly: “I shouldn’t have asked.”
Kelly: “Why?”
Me: “Well I don’t really want to know.”
Kelly: “Know what?”
Me: “That this is…” (it’s very difficult and uncomfortable to get out these next words) “a dream, because then I’ll wake up.”
I go in for a kiss and as soon as my lips touch hers, I’m awake.
